The climate crisis, natural disasters and pandemics. Pregnant or breastfeeding women, infants and young children are the most vulnerable in any emergency situation. Breastfeeding is a vital element of resilience and food security for families with infants. Human milk provides valuable nutrition and immunity and helps to reduce maternal and infant stress at the same time. Infants receiving formula milk don’t have the same immunological advantages and have increased risk of infection.
The UK has some of the lowest breastfeeding rates in the world, we need to consider disaster management and food security ahead of time.
In this talk we’ll consider how infants can be safely fed during unpredictable situations and of course I’ll talk about the science and magic of human milk.
