DJ Dad started living in 1956 and DJing in Leeds 1972, then in Brighton and then holding various residencies around London as well as one-off gigs.
Now a long-time Bristol, Glastonbury & Shambala selector mixing roots reggae, dancehall, hip hop, Afropop, moombahton, reggaeton, soca, UK garage, global house, funk, jazz, Latin, drum & bass and sounds yet to be named, into a joyful confection.
With a deep love for the music of his youth he still buys fresh sounds every week (well, most days actually!) and mixes across genres, eras and places.
Since 2008 Dad has been the resident DJ and co-programmer for the Wandering Word now Phantom Laundry, the spoken word/music tent at Shambala.
At festivals he regularly plays the links between live acts as well as holding down his own late-night sets.
He programmed the live music and DJ nights at the legendary Plough Inn in Easton, Bristol for 4 years and continues to play a jam-packed monthly residency there, bringing in a wide variety of guests. He plays regularly at Bristol’s Attic and the Pipe and Slippers with occasional sets at Trinity, Jam Jar, Lost Horizon and elsewhere in Bristol.
Dad’s dedicated to supporting Bristol’s live music scene and produced A Bristol Record with Ben Capp in 2016. This heavyweight vinyl double album featured exclusively Bristol artists recording new material that year.
