The devastating impact of the climate crisis, along with global inequality and increasing conflict is undeniable and displacing communities across the globe. People move, and have always moved, for a number of reasons – seeking lives of safety, dignity and agency that bring diversity and beauty to communities worldwide.
But against this backdrop, we are seeing a rise in far-right ideology, not just recently in the streets through violence, but legitimised through elected politicians and the mainstream media. Framing migration as a threat dehumanises those who move and masks the root cause of our global crises – legacies of colonialism and racialised capitalism.
Join Tyrone Scott, Senior Movement Building Activism Officer at War on Want, to discuss the links between Climate, Colonialism and the rise of the far right.
This session is part of a day of talks and workshops exploring “Decolonial Perspectives on Climate Change” – what does it look and feel like when social injustice and systemic inequality is the starting place, when we think and talk about the climate crisis?
