Some-Antics is a poetry organisation based in Leicester. It is dedicated to providing opportunities for poets to perform, develop their artistic craft and be part of a community of artists. It hosts a monthly live event with open mic, poetry slam and DJ, which often features some of the finest spoken word artists of the day, as well as emerging talent. There is also an online monthly meetup, with opportunities to connect and write with other poets. Some-Antics returns to Phantom Laundry for the second time, expect good vibes and great poetry on Thursday evening to set you up nicely for the weekend!
Sammy Nour: Sammy Nour is a performance and page poet hailing from Leicester. His material ranges from everyday observations to perspectives on political and societal issues, as well as exploring the identity of his Irish-Palestinian heritage. He has supported the likes of Motormouf, Lydia Towsey, Mark Grist, Liv Torc, Penny Pepper and Buddy Wakefield. His first collection, ‘Platform 7’ was published with SanRoo Publishing in October 2021. Sammy is the co-founder of Some-Antics Spoken Word, an event and writers’ collective dedicated to free expression and providing opportunities for performance and artistic development.
Chris Oliver: Chris is a spoken word poet and workshop facilitator from Nottingham. His work is heavily influenced by his love for music, his personal growth journey and his perspectives on society.
Ellie Spirrett: Ellie Spirrett is a poet and spoken word artist. She was the 2023 Some-Antics slam champion and a 2023 Roundhouse Poetry Slam finalist. She writes about ableism, chronic illness and the loneliness epidemic. Ellie also runs creative writing workshops with charities and organisations on writing for mental health and exploring what it’s like living in the modern world.
