Spinning multi-layered soundscapes from a singular violin line, Rebekah Reid has become known for combining virtuosic violin performance with live looping and electronics. Her debut solo album ‘Selected Works Vol.1’ was originally commissioned by BBC Sounds and BBC Radio 4 for the critically acclaimed series ’28ish Days Later’. The BBC podcast was included in Apple Podcasts Top 5 shows of 2022 and Amazon Music Best Podcasts 2023. ‘Selected Works Vol.1’ (released independently in September 2023) was well received, attracting approval from critics, and was included on the longlist in 5 different categories for the 66th GRAMMY Awards 2024.
Rebekah has taken her live violin and loop pedal set across the UK, with notable performances at the Portico Library supporting Matana Roberts and Kelly Jayne Jones, and the Royal Albert Hall – the Elgar Room in 2019 and 2021. Alongside solo performing, Rebekah records for many artists and tours extensively with various groups, including the Chineke! Orchestra, Soul II Soul, Nao, Stormzy, Celeste and Alicia Keys.
She has been featured in The Strad, Jazzwise Magazine, Vogue UK and appeared on BBC Radio 4’s ‘Add to Playlist’ with Cerys Matthews and Jeffrey Boayke in 2022. She has featured as a guest artist on Soho Radio with Max Reinhardt, ‘This Classical Life’ with Jess Gillam, and Lauren Laverne’s breakfast show on BBC 6 Music. Her compositions have been played on BBC Radio 3 – Petroc Trelawny’s Breakfast Show, BBC Radio 3 Late Junction, Elizabeth Alker’s BBC 3 Radio Show, Linton Stephens ‘Classical Fix’, BBC 6 Music (Moses Boyd sit in for Guy Garvey), BBC 1Xtra (Jamz Supernova), and the J to Z Show.
Rebekah is also bandleader of Täpp – an experimental loop pedal music collective that effortlessly blends influences from jazz, contemporary classical music, folk, world and electronic dance music to create rhythmically complex West African soundscapes, ethereal dreamscapes and immersive sound baths. The ensemble released their debut album independently in 2021, with their second single ‘Never Knew Why’ being picked up by Whistledown Productions in 2022, and used in the radio series ‘Please Protect Abraham’ first broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in December 2022.
